§ 02 — Lines of business

Three books. One rail.

Specialty, commercial, and surety carriers run on different paper and different reserves — but the operating motion is shared. Intake, enrich, decide, mirror. Each book inherits its own rules, its own envelope, its own examiner trail.

  1. I.

    Specialty

Excess & surplus, programs, niche commercial. Risks the admitted market won't take and brokers can't place inside a week. The rail is built to compress placement to minutes, underwriting to one auditable run, and reporting to a single decision record.

    Status
    Roadmap — seeking design partners
    Examples
    E&S property · cyber · transportation · habitational
    Authority
    Delegated, with envelope you set
  2. II.

    Commercial

Standard P&C lines written through retail and program channels — GL, BOP, commercial auto, professional liability. The volume backbone. The same rail motion — intake, classification, routine binding on your paper — extends here once the surety book has proven it.

    Status
    Roadmap — follows specialty

BOP · GL · commercial auto · professional liability
    Authority

  3. III.

    Surety

License & permit, contract, court, fidelity, federal. The original Railpoint book — live today. 637 classifications, 86,000+ loss-ratio data points, full SFAA taxonomy, Treasury C-570 single-risk ceiling enforced in the decision gate, exportable decision records on every issuance.

§ 03 — How it works

Three steps. One contract.

  1. 01

    Configure your underwriting rules.

Encode the authority matrix your team already operates by — class, penal sum, indemnitor profile, loss history, state. What auto-binds, what routes to senior UW, what escalates. Versioned and diffable, with sign-off from your CUO.

    Plug in your agencies.

Applications flow in through the rail — your existing agency portals, your broker APIs, your MGA partners. Every submission is enriched, scored against your loss experience, and placed on the track that matches its risk profile.

  3. 03

Routine bonds graduate to closing automatically.

Every class starts in shadow mode — the rail decides silently alongside your underwriters until the agreement rate earns binding authority, class by class. Inside the envelope, bonds bind after hours on your paper with an auditable decision record. Outside it, a human gets the file with the context already assembled.

§ 04 — Live on the rail

Watch a bond graduate itself to the envelope.

A scripted replay of a representative decision — the same pipeline, trace, and rule shapes the rail produces in production, compressed for display. Every decision is explainable — down to which rule, which data point, which prior loss shifted the score.

Exhibit I — Architecture

What the rail actually is.

A schematic, not a metaphor. Three layers, six components, two mirrors. Sits beside your policy admin system, not between it and your distribution.

Fig. 1.  The rail is a four-stage stream — ingest, enrich, decide, mirror — sitting in parallel with your policy admin system. Every decision and its inputs are mirrored back to your book of record with a portable, examiner- grade trace.
Fig. 2.  Operating leverage, illustrative. Premium written by carriers on the rail compounds with rail uptime; ops expense scales with headcount, which does not change. Indexed against industry baseline; carrier-specific values delivered as part of the live backtest.

Encode your rules. Backtest on your book. Run shadow against your own underwriters and review the decision records. Grant the first class binding authority only when the agreement rate earns it. Nothing skips a step — and nothing graduates without your signature.

Blueprint, not a case study. The first reference deployment publishes with the carrier's consent.
§ 06 — Deployment model

Railpoint sits alongside your platform, not on top of it.

Your policy admin system stays where it is. Your paper stays your paper. Railpoint is a distribution channel and an underwriting engine — plugged into your existing stack via the rail, removable at any time, with every decision mirrored back to your book of record.

§ 07 — AI governance

The model never binds. Your underwriters do.

Every automated decision runs inside an authority envelope you set. Nothing graduates to autonomous binding without a signed delegation, a dissent check, and a decision record your examiner can audit line-by-line.

§ 10 — Frequently asked

The questions carriers ask first.

Whose paper does the policy go on?
Yours. Railpoint is an operating system, not a carrier. Every policy and every bond issued through the rail is on your paper, under your authority, mirrored back to your book of record with a full decision trace. Surety today — and specialty and commercial inherit the same posture as they ship: your reserves, your reinsurers, your reputation.
What stays in human hands?
Whatever you decide. The authority envelope is yours to set and yours to grow. The design calls for starting with only the lowest-risk classifications — and every class runs in shadow mode against your own underwriters before it binds a single bond. The envelope expands only when the decision record earns it.
How long is a typical deployment?
The deployment plan targets 8–14 weeks from kickoff to first autonomous bond. That includes rule encoding, integration, a backtest on your book, the shadow-mode run against your underwriters, and your vendor security review.
What happens when the dissent check disagrees with the primary model?
The decision is held and routed to a human with both traces attached — dissent never auto-binds. The disagreement rate is tracked as a primary model-health metric and reported to you.
Can we remove Railpoint?
Yes. Every decision, rule version, and model card exports as a portable bundle. Your PAS keeps running. Your book keeps its history. The rail detaches.
How do you price?
A platform fee plus a percentage of premium on bonds the rail writes — we earn when your book grows, not when you buy software. Pricing is discussed under NDA against your projected volume by line.
